I recently changed from a multiple desktop setup with several monitors, keyboards, and mice along with all the paraphernalia normally associated with such a setup (multiple printers, backup drives, etc, etc) to a large screen laptop. It would seem that no matter how large my desk was, the space quickly became cluttered with yet more electronics devices. I could barely find room for pen and paper.....

That said, the screen on my laptop is just over 17", large for a laptop, but nothing compared to the multiple large screen monitors I had with my desktop. I thought about setting up a docking situation in order to utilize my monitors but that made the change seem kind of pointless really. Getting to the point, I often re-organize my drives after clearing each one off and re-formatting. The file shuffling can get very intensive and requires multiple windows open for copy / pasting or cut and paste operations, especially when dealing with huge amounts of data. I had many backups and have been rather lazy about dealing with multiple copies of the same data over the years which also requires multiple windows open for file comparisons to weed out those no longer needed.

I started looking for an alternative to using multiple explorer windows where they tend to get "lost" after having more than two or three open. I tried a couple after researching but quickly removed each of these after finding them overly complex.

I found WDE today and, after reading about it, decided to give it a try. Wow! Finally a software that is simple and efficient. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and makes my file manipulation tasks a pleasure. This is a perfect example of "less is more". Having everything and the kitchen sink in a program usually renders it useless, particularly with utility type programs. Good job!

Sincerely,
Max H

I have two HP laptops. First my personal laptop running 64bit Windows 7 and second company HP laptop running 32 bit Windows Vista Enterprise Version 6.0.6002 Service pack 2, build 6002.

I have HP docking station and am using either of laptops by plugging them into the docking station. Therefore both laptops "see" the same peripherals i.e. two external monitors, external keyboard, and two external hard drives.

On both computers I am using WDE Portable Version 0.4.0.0.

NOW:

With my private laptop running Windows 7 WDE works PERFECTLY. However on on the company laptop I am experiencing the problem of "Double Explorer stopped working"

WDE is the best WE alternative. I have tried FreeCommander and MultiCommender as well as an older (excellent) program called A43. All three work OK with both laptops but none is as good as WDE.

I am willing to pay 50 USD contribution if I manage to make WDE work with the company laptop running 32 bit Vista.

Thanks in advance and kind regards

Hey,

I'm using Win 7 64bit and was using the WDE for more than a year now without any problems.

Now it crashes whenever I start it. The symbol appears for an instant and then nothing happens...

Any suggestions how to get it working again?

I'm using soluto so I'll paste the information I got from there.

I have been searching here and on the web for a way to change the default action of pressing WIN+E. most "solutions" refer to using AutoHotkey and a slew of reg hacks that don't seem to work.

Without using any 3rd party utilities does anyone know of a way to open this explorer replacement when the user presses Win+E under win7 ?

I like the feautures/functionality but I think it should entirely replace, or at least, integrate into explorer in such a way that it doesn't need to be executed as a separate program. Thanks for your hard work. I'm accustomed to this functionality
in Nautilus on Linux and now I can finally do it in Windows too.

I just tried to access my server (where I have access) just by typing its address in the address bar on the top of WDE window but the program seems to drop the request.

If you want to reproduce it try to use a command like "\\sqlserver" by using a valid network link... (v 0.4.0.0)

Hi,

In Windows 7, on a HD LD monitor, the status bar icon of WDE appears very faint because the icon background is grey (the same colour as the status bar).

I suggest you make the icon background black so it will stand out.
